On August 1st, 1833 the British parliament enacted the Slavery Abolition Act. 175 years later Jamaica along with several other Caribbean nations celebrate/acknowledge the historic significance as a national holiday.

  5. As we celebrate the emancipation from physical slavery we now need to work on, as bob said, emancipating ourselves from mental slavery.
