Jamaica dust-out Canada 3-0 but too little too late

It was Pride vs Survival and they both lost. The already eliminated Canadian team was further humiliated to a fine trashing at the hands of the Reggae Boyz going down 3-0.The Reggae Boyz had Canada unda mannaz at the Office last night as they fight for survival , but it was not to be as the momentous win over Canada was not enough make them qualify for the CONCACAF finals. During the second half in the game Mexico vs Honduras , Honduras sealed the deal ensuring their spot in the finals and at the same time outing the flames of hope for the 30,000 at the office after they were informed of the fatal diagnosis.

Luton Shelton delivered for the home team as he did in the previous games netting the first one in the 26th minute, followed by Marlon King who scored with the penalty kick in the 58th minute. Omar Cummings net the third goal just 4 minute before the final whistle.

Both Jamaica and Mexico ended in the group with 10 points however Mexico advance based on goal difference. Honduras ended with 12.

We won the last 3 matches since Rene Simoes was canned after the lost to Honduras. We need look no further than the results with a Theodore Whitmore or Johnny Barnes at the helm to realize Simoes was literally stifling the talent on the national team. If Jamaica had been playing like this from day one we wouldn’t have just qualified, we might be standing a top the group in points or goals scored or even both.

But why cry over spilt milk ?

  1. Although i agree with most of what you have said i definitely do not agree with your comment re: Simoes stifling the talent. I think Simoes is the only person that has ever got us to the World Cup and should have been left alone, following his strategy to do it again. There were too many people around him constraining him. When you are told there should not be any overseas players and you need to work with the home grown talent getting to the World Cup is going to be a difficult goal to achieve. As i recall when we made it to France, overseas players were in the team. So lets not put it all on Simoes. It was definitely the management team etc. including Burrell. I’m looking forward to see what Barnes is going to do with this team. Interesting times ahead 🙂

  2. Dee- As i watch the sports news this evening and saw the JFF answering media questions I said to myself they are the ones who are ultimately responsible. Not that casting blame is productive or a wise use of time but surely examining where we went wrong is important and should be a basis in setting up future programs.

I respect Mr. Simoes surely it would be unjust to say he alone is responsible but surely with the results since his departure clearly shows that his formula was not working, in fact we need not look at the last 3 games just look at the strings of losses against some of the most under-rated teams in the Caribbean.
