# 2-You know it’s Christmas You know its Christmas in Jamaica because everyone is “fixing up”

You know its Christmas in Jamaica because everyone is doing something to enhance the look of their surroundings.

Windows that might have not been touched for months are now cleaned and draped with new curtains. Some Jamaicans take this opportunity to throw out junk and even re-arrange furniture. The smell of fresh paint for a wall, a gate or a room to brighten up the immediate space.

Apart from the person who might have a little landscaping done in anticipation of Christmas even the government gets into the act of “fixing up”.

What we Jamaicans call “Christmas work” is given to those who want to earn an extra dollar by cutting a few protruding trees limbs and shrubs about the place.

Of course there are the traditional Christmas decorations to complement the cleaner more attractive surroundings.
