Jamaica Observer Hypocritical Editorial on Wolmers Winning Champs Because They Really wanted KC to Win

It is clear that many people are sucking sour grapes because Wolmers Boys took Champs this year. This sourness was particularly big and bold in yesterday’s Jamaica Observer editorial chastising Messrs Julian Forte and Dwayne Extol of the Wolmers team for this celebratory picture.

motoThe Jamaica Observer: “Wolmerians should be forgiven if they start believing in fairy tales”

Jamaica Observer Editorial for March 30th,2010 reads:

“THAT picture on the front pages of the two daily newspapers’ Sunday editions will forever capture the essence of Champs 2010.”

Wolmerian teammates Messrs Julian Forte and Dwayne Extol looking and reaching for each other in rapture as they approached the finish line in the final of the Class One 200 metres could be construed by some as evidence of arrogance and disrespect for opponents.

Those who know Champs will recognise it for what it was: a celebration of team effort and success in a sport that is essentially about the purest form of individual competition.

Wolmerians should be forgiven if they start believing in fairy tales.”

Read it again, yes read that excerpt from the editorial again. A part from slurps from the badmind soup they are drinking what else do you hear?

Yeah that is right snobbery a sort of elitism or entitlement and bias towards a certain outcome, a sense of THEM.

1.”Those who know Champs will recognise it…..”

2.”Wolmerians should be forgiven if they start believing in fairy tales.”

What a blatant piece of jealousy and vicious attack on the youngsters.

At the same time in the back in the sports section of the newspaper they seek to give in-depth analysis of “How KC lost Champs” Jamaica’s bourgeoisie of athletics.

It is clear who their favorites are. It is said one should not pick fights with those who buy ink by the barrel load but I just couldn’t bit my tongue on this one. I must to call them out and put them on blast on this little blog I have here. They are hypocrites with clear agendas, very, unfair, bias and all the adjectives in the dictionary.

They must remember that the ball is round, well not the ball in this case but you know what I mean. When all the so called experts, analysts, sports speculators are done dissecting and predicting the out come- What are the odds?- A top contender but an underdog nonetheless rises-What the odds don’t know.

Remember these are they same people who for the THE MOST part song praises to Usain Bolt So called shenanigans at the Olympics in Beijing 2 years ago? Remember all the criticism Bolt took for pounding his chest near the finish line?

What's so wrong about Celebrating?

Watch this you tube video and all the sports metaphors in it. So it is in sports can be applied to life. BE INSPIRED!!

  1. This is one of the more unbalanced posts you have written.

Wolmer’s won! And you are still going on about KC. Wow.

  2. I read the Observer post and that was the end of it for me. Now that you highlighted the bias I am now scanning over what they really wrote. I think sports have been elevated. People do not see their celebrations as them being too boastful anymore. They want their champions to celebrate – especially the sports fans. I find it shocking that the Observer would present an editorial like this. I think one of the newspapers also went in on one of the KC boys for clicking his fingers like a gun after he cleared a level in the high jump as well. It is interesting how we use small details to cover the bigger picture. I think champs 100 was great. It is the year of the underdog.

Did you watch Quiz last night?

Enough of the ridiculousness of Observer. People will always have negative things to say. That commentary should have been for the Letter of the Day and not the editorial page.

    Enjoyed the video too.

  3. Astley Henry I am sorry you believe I am going on about KC. They are a major part of this story and I have to state their importance in this context.

I think the post was fair

    • They should have noted the gun gesture as well. To be balanced in their application of their nonsense.

You know what? When the story of Champs 100 is written, no one will care about a stilted Observer commentary.

Thanks for you comment on my blog. You definitely gave me a few points to consider.

  4. Corve, I have heard so much about the final quiz last night.i was in transit and missed it but it was big topic today. I heard it was close and exciting-Congrats to Jago

My question is when will it be re-broadcast?

In football players can not celebrate too much either. I am disappointed with how the Jamaica Observer choose to address this issue.

I saw the clicking finger from the KC boy on television too, now maybe he thought he was the guy setting off the race but if we are going to say Wolmers was wrong for the little celebratory gestures well what can we say about the clicking of a gun gesture?

  5. RB, I do understand your concern and sentiments on this issue. Nuff respect !!

  6. Why you jamaicans so obnoxious and nobody understands when y’all talk.

  7. RB,what is up with this Tyrell?

  8. Nuff respect, Star !!

  9. Rb you too ignorant to address the truth. The truth shall set you free.

  10. astley henry obviously did not read the post. Dont be sorry. Tell him to read before he comments.

That last line of the Editorial sounds a little biased for tru: wolmerians should be FORGIVEN if they start believin in fairy-tales. If it was unintentional, it was the wrong choice of words. They could just congratulate them and stop there.

    • Thank you Ruthibelle, the over all tone of not just the editorial but the entire publication during and after the event points to a biased agenda.

  11. That writer of the editorial certainly drank some bad mind soup! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on how victory should be celebrated, but that last statement was certainly a low blow.

Who is this idiot called Tyrell?
